Travel around Seoul with Bobby

I chose to visit Seoul because it’s a city where tradition meets cutting-edge technology in the most exciting way. The chance to explore ancient palaces like Gyeongbokgung, set against a backdrop of modern skyscrapers, was something I couldn’t resist. I was also drawn to the lively energy of districts like Myeongdong and Hongdae, famous for their shopping, street food, and K-pop performances. Seoul’s food scene, with flavors like bibimbap and Korean barbecue, promised a culinary adventure I couldn’t wait to dive into. Beyond that, the contrast of traditional tea houses and high-tech attractions like Lotte World made Seoul feel like a city of endless discoveries. I knew Seoul would be full of vibrant culture, fascinating history, and unique experiences.

Day 1Stepping Back in Time – Gyeongbokgung Palace and Bukchon Hanok Village

My first day in Seoul began with a visit to Gyeongbokgung Palace, the largest of Seoul’s five grand palaces. Walking through its grand gates and exploring the tranquil courtyards, I felt as though I’d stepped back into Korea’s royal past. I even got to watch the changing of the guard ceremony, an experience that brought the palace’s history to life. Just a short walk away, I visited Bukchon Hanok Village, a preserved area of traditional Korean houses. The narrow alleys and sloping rooftops were charming, and the views over Seoul’s modern skyline were a striking contrast.

For lunch, I stopped at a local spot and tried bibimbap, a flavorful bowl of rice, vegetables, and spicy gochujang sauce. Later, I checked into Four Seasons Seoul, a luxurious hotel with stunning views of the city and a relaxing ambiance. Ending the day with a stroll through the serene grounds of Jogyesa Temple, I felt grounded and ready for the adventure ahead.

Gyeongbokgung and Bukchon are a perfect start for anyone visiting Seoul. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes, as there’s a lot of walking, and take time to savor the city’s slower, traditional side.

Day 2Modern Vibes in Myeongdong and N Seoul Tower Views

Today was all about the energy of Seoul’s modern side, starting with Myeongdong—a bustling district famous for shopping and street food. From beauty shops to fashion boutiques, every corner offered something vibrant, and I tried a few popular snacks like tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes) and hotteok (sweet Korean pancakes). With a shopping bag full of souvenirs, I headed to Namsan Seoul Tower in the afternoon. The cable car ride up was scenic, and once at the top, I was greeted with panoramic views of the city below.

For dinner, I found a Korean barbecue spot, Maple Tree House, where I grilled marinated beef and vegetables right at the table. The flavors were out of this world, smoky and perfectly seasoned, and it was a fun, interactive meal. After a day of modern vibes, I headed back to the hotel to relax and recharge.

Myeongdong is a must for shopping and street food lovers, but go on an empty stomach! N Seoul Tower offers an amazing view, especially at sunset, so plan your visit accordingly.

Day 3Art, Culture, and Nightlife in Hongdae

Day three took me to Hongdae, Seoul’s youthful and artsy neighborhood. Known for its street art, indie cafes, and lively energy, Hongdae didn’t disappoint. I spent the morning exploring art galleries and browsing local shops selling everything from handmade crafts to vintage clothes. In the afternoon, I joined the street crowds for a K-pop dance performance, which added an extra layer of energy and fun to the experience.

Lunch was at Yeonnam Seo Sikdang, a cozy spot offering creative fusion dishes inspired by traditional Korean flavors. As the day turned to evening, I experienced Seoul’s famous nightlife at Club FF, a venue known for live indie bands and an energetic crowd. Dancing with locals and travelers alike, I felt Seoul’s vibrant spirit come alive in full force.

Hongdae is full of life and creativity—plan to spend an entire day here if you can. Embrace the nightlife; it’s one of the best ways to feel the real energy of Seoul.

Day 4A Day of Reflection – DMZ Tour and Traditional Korean Tea House

On my fourth day, I joined a tour to the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) between North and South Korea. The journey was surreal, filled with historical weight and stories of separation. Standing at the observatory and looking into North Korea was a powerful, unforgettable experience that gave me a deeper understanding of Korea’s complex history. The tour included visits to the 3rd Tunnel, built by North Korea, and the Dorasan Station, a symbol of hope for future reunification.

Returning to Seoul, I sought out a more peaceful experience at a traditional Korean tea house in Insadong, where I enjoyed a warm cup of omija cha (five-flavor tea). This quiet time allowed me to reflect on the day’s experience in a peaceful setting surrounded by antiques and serene decor. Dinner was a lighter affair, with savory Korean pancakes (pajeon) and a side of kimchi.

The DMZ tour is essential for understanding Korea’s history—just be prepared for an emotional experience. A traditional tea house afterward offers a perfect balance, giving you time to relax and reflect.

Day 5Nature and Farewell – Exploring the Han River and Lotte World Tower

For my final day, I wanted to enjoy Seoul’s natural side. I rented a bike along the Han River, cycling past parks and stopping to enjoy the peaceful riverside atmosphere. Locals were out picnicking, jogging, and enjoying the fresh air, and I felt like I’d found a different side of Seoul. Later, I took a trip to Lotte World Tower, one of the tallest buildings in the world, to soak in one last panoramic view of the city. The observation deck at the top offered a fantastic 360-degree view, making for a memorable farewell.

For lunch, I treated myself to a final Korean feast at Tosokchon Samgyetang, famous for its traditional ginseng chicken soup, samgyetang. The broth was rich and comforting, a delicious send-off before I headed to the airport. As I said goodbye to Seoul, I knew I’d be returning someday.

Cycling along the Han River is a relaxing way to enjoy Seoul’s natural beauty and feel like a local. Lotte World Tower provides an incredible final view—an ideal way to say goodbye to this vibrant city.

Summary of My Trip

Seoul was an incredible blend of tradition and modernity, where every day brought new surprises. From exploring the ancient beauty of Gyeongbokgung Palace to experiencing the creative energy in Hongdae, the city offered a perfect balance of history and contemporary culture. The food was unforgettable, with flavors that ranged from spicy street food in Myeongdong to the rich, comforting taste of samgyetang on my last day.
