Travel around Seoul with Bobby
I chose to visit Seoul because it’s a city where tradition meets cutting-edge technology in the most exciting way. The chance to explore ancient palaces like Gyeongbokgung, set against a backdrop of modern skyscrapers, was something I couldn’t resist. I was also drawn to the lively energy of districts like Myeongdong and Hongdae, famous for their shopping, street food, and K-pop performances. Seoul’s food scene, with flavors like bibimbap and Korean barbecue, promised a culinary adventure I couldn’t wait to dive into. Beyond that, the contrast of traditional tea houses and high-tech attractions like Lotte World made Seoul feel like a city of endless discoveries. I knew Seoul would be full of vibrant culture, fascinating history, and unique experiences.
Day 1Stepping Back in Time – Gyeongbokgung Palace and Bukchon Hanok Village
My first day in Seoul began with a visit to Gyeongbokgung Palace, the largest of Seoul’s five grand palaces. Walking through its grand gates and exploring the tranquil courtyards, I felt as though I’d stepped back into Korea’s royal past. I even got to watch the changing of the guard ceremony, an experience that brought the palace’s history to life. Just a short walk away, I visited Bukchon Hanok Village, a preserved area of traditional Korean houses. The narrow alleys and sloping rooftops were charming, and the views over Seoul’s modern skyline were a striking contrast.
For lunch, I stopped at a local spot and tried bibimbap, a flavorful bowl of rice, vegetables, and spicy gochujang sauce. Later, I checked into Four Seasons Seoul, a luxurious hotel with stunning views of the city and a relaxing ambiance. Ending the day with a stroll through the serene grounds of Jogyesa Temple, I felt grounded and ready for the adventure ahead.
Gyeongbokgung and Bukchon are a perfect start for anyone visiting Seoul. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes, as there’s a lot of walking, and take time to savor the city’s slower, traditional side.
