Travel around Tbilisi with Bobby

I chose to visit Tbilisi because it’s a city with a fascinating mix of history and modernity that I couldn’t resist exploring. The rich culture, with influences from both Europe and Asia, intrigued me, and I wanted to see how these worlds come together in one place. I had heard so much about the iconic Narikala Fortress and the legendary Sulfur Baths, so I knew those were must-sees. Plus, the idea of wandering through the Old Town’s charming streets, with its traditional houses and bustling atmosphere, was something I couldn’t pass up. And, of course, Tbilisi’s reputation for incredible food and warm hospitality sealed the deal for me!

Day 1A Stroll Through History – Discovering Tbilisi’s Old Town

As soon as I arrived in Tbilisi, I knew my first stop had to be the Old Town. The charm of the cobblestone streets, lined with traditional Georgian houses and colorful balconies, immediately pulled me in. My adventure began with a visit to the Narikala Fortress, one of the city’s most iconic landmarks, perched high on a hill. The panoramic views from the top were breathtaking, offering a full sweep of the city, the Mtkvari River, and the surrounding hills. Afterward, I made my way to the Sioni Cathedral, a symbol of Georgian Christianity, nestled among the Old Town’s narrow alleys. The cathedral’s historical significance and peaceful ambiance added a spiritual touch to my day. I wrapped up my day by relaxing at the famous Sulfur Baths, where the natural hot springs rejuvenated me after all the walking. That evening, I dined at Machakhela, a popular restaurant serving traditional Georgian dishes, including the famous khachapuri (cheese-filled bread), which was warm and delicious.

Start your trip with the Old Town to feel the pulse of Tbilisi’s history. Wear comfortable shoes because the streets are steep, and the Sulfur Baths are the perfect way to unwind afterward!

Day 2From the Heights of Mtatsminda to Modern Marvels

The next morning, I decided to start the day with a ride on the funicular up to Mtatsminda Park, a popular amusement park sitting on the top of the hill. The ride itself was a thrilling experience, but the real treat was the spectacular view from the top. From up there, you get an unbeatable view of the entire city, and it’s especially breathtaking in the early morning. The park itself was fun too, with a range of rides, cafes, and small attractions for families and solo travelers alike. After soaking in the vistas, I headed back down into the city and took a stroll through Rike Park, a modern green space along the river, known for its sleek design and relaxing atmosphere. I crossed the Bridge of Peace, a modern architectural marvel that symbolizes the city’s fusion of old and new. For lunch, I stopped at Cafe Littera, a hidden gem in a garden setting, serving refined Georgian cuisine. The food was delightful, and the quiet atmosphere was perfect after a day of walking. I ended the day with a leisurely walk along Aghmashenebeli Avenue, one of the city’s main boulevards, lined with beautiful 19th-century buildings and bustling with life.

Mtatsminda Park offers both great views and a fun escape, but don’t miss the Bridge of Peace—it’s an impressive example of Tbilisi’s blend of old and new. If you love photography, this is the place to capture the city’s contrasts.

Day 3A Journey into Georgia’s Cultural Heart

On my third day, I focused on exploring Georgia’s cultural side, starting with a visit to the Georgian National Museum. The museum offered a fascinating collection of historical artifacts, from ancient tools to contemporary art, giving me a deeper understanding of Georgia’s rich history. The Treasury Hall, which holds a vast collection of ancient gold jewelry and artifacts, was particularly impressive. Afterward, I wandered to Freedom Square, a bustling and significant landmark in Tbilisi’s political history, where locals and tourists alike gathered around the grand monument in the center. The square is an ideal starting point for exploring the surrounding streets filled with shops and cafes. In the afternoon, I made my way to Fabrika, a former Soviet sewing factory transformed into a cultural hub. The space was filled with creativity—art studios, funky cafes, and boutique shops—where I picked up a unique handmade souvenir. Dinner that night was at Shavi Lomi, an upscale restaurant offering a creative take on traditional Georgian dishes, blending local flavors with modern techniques in an unforgettable meal.

Don’t skip the Georgian National Museum if you want a solid understanding of the country’s past. And Fabrika is a must for art lovers—it’s a slice of contemporary Tbilisi that feels fresh and youthful.

Day 4 Nature and Relaxation at Lisi Lake

After three days of non-stop exploration, I decided to slow things down and head out to nature. I took a taxi to Lisi Lake, a peaceful retreat just outside the city center. The lake, surrounded by green hills and nature trails, was the perfect spot for a relaxing picnic and a quiet walk along the scenic paths. The calm waters reflected the clear blue sky, making it a perfect place for a break from the urban buzz. After spending a few hours enjoying the tranquility of the lake, I headed back to the city to visit Vake Park, one of the largest parks in Tbilisi. Families were enjoying the wide green spaces, playgrounds, and cafes scattered throughout the park. It was a great spot to relax, especially in the afternoon. For dinner, I treated myself to Barbarestan, a luxury restaurant known for its historical recipes, where I tasted Georgian cuisine with a modern twist. The food was impeccable, and the ambiance of the restaurant was cozy and elegant.

If you need a break from the city’s energy, Lisi Lake is a peaceful haven. It’s perfect for a family day out or just some solo relaxation.

Day 5 A Taste of Tbilisi’s Nightlife

My last day in Tbilisi was all about experiencing the city’s vibrant nightlife. After a day of exploring the sights, I started the evening with a sunset drink at Lolita, a trendy bar with a laid-back atmosphere and fantastic outdoor seating. The crowd was young and lively, and the atmosphere was perfect for relaxing with a cocktail. As the night progressed, I made my way to Bassiani, one of the most famous underground clubs in Europe. Located in a former swimming pool under Tbilisi’s football stadium, the club is legendary for its techno music and electrifying atmosphere. The energy was intense, and the music kept the crowd moving late into the night. It was an unforgettable experience and a great way to end my trip.

Tbilisi’s nightlife is not to be missed! Lolita is great for a chill evening, but if you’re looking for something more intense, Bassiani is the place to experience the city’s underground scene.
